My favorite topic...

The topic of the week in football.... Adrian Peterson.

In a trip out to Utah, I was popping ESPN radio on and off all morning. I was waiting. Waiting for the answer. I had an outside hope that Calvin Johnson would fall to the Vikings, but Matt Millen took the best player on the board, which happened to be a WR... strange. After the tackles went off the board a little early and low and behold, the one position the Vikings were okay at, was the best player available. HOWEVER, anyone that watched the Vikings at the end of the season, knows that they used Chester Taylor too much, and their only 'playmaker' was dropping balls. So, at #7, when the Vikings got one of the top two playmakers in the league, I whooped a little too loud and my wife had to remind me we were inside a car.

So, to say that this explosion of yards got the Vikings a win was a surprise, the answer is no. To see ALL the yards come from one player though, was shocking. The other surprise for me was, that Peterson's play has already rolled over to a particular WR that has had more drops than a 1st rounder should. Williamson is getting more 1 on 1's and will have a chance or 2 a game to get the big play. He may be worth a TD a game, if he can hold on to the ball from a big armed Jackson. The next big step will be that Rice will get more touches in red zone with all the attention being on that big play running game. The trickle down, has a potential to turn this offense into a halfway decent offense, rather than the atrocity it has been.

The part I differ with most people (and it pains me to say this) is that Peterson needs to limit his touches. I chanted all game long last week that they needed to 'get Peterson the ball.' However, there is no reason to beat them man down. Let him be fresh all season long... I would give Peterson a few more touches (18/12?), but Taylor needs to beat up some people so Peterson can break those mind blowing runs. I will continually gripe that Peterson needs more touches, but I don't really believe it.

This was really 'well put together' but it got some items off my chest. Additionally, I had a few spare moments to put it together while waiting for the appraisal guy to show up. This weekend we should get the true ramblings up and running again.

This has been a Matter of Fact.
