College Football, 2007

College Football

This year has been spectacular in college football. I watched a Mizzou, Jayhawk game on Saturday that should go down as one of the most interesting games to go down in quite some times. The announcers had to have the time of their life.

Missouri races to a lead, only to have the Jayhawks come storming back. Two Heisman hopefuls slugging it out with a couple of great backup players fighting it out on the outside. And the best part of it all? All of the players were, for all intents and purposes, brand new to the game. Coaches, towns, traditions... all new, all beautiful. There wasn't the old guard, there wasn't the overplayed stories. It was about football. It was as close to perfect as I could have asked for without it being for the national championship.

Now it can only get better if the underdogs keep winning. As many people want to see Ohio St. and LSU in the game... there are just as many that want to see Missouri, West Virginia, Kansas, Hawaii, and Boston College get the big games for once. I for one would prefer a team that doesn't make their own championship doesn't make the national championship either (see Oklahoma a few years ago). Georgia should be eliminated from contention, this being said when I feel their are an outstanding team, but they didn't make their own championship game... that's a fact. I also don't think Hawaii should be in, BUT they had best be in the BCS. They beat Boise, Boise proved they belonged last year.

Lastly, I really hope LSU doesn't make the national championship game. It has nothing to do with their team though. I think they have put together a team that can compete with anyone, but I can't stand the media's love affair with Les Miles. First, he's Mr. 4th down. The same title lost him his first game. Second, unless Michigan gets a coach NOT named Les, I can't take the continual talk of him 'being distracted.' Save me from this... just remove him from the BCS championship.

That's my bitterness... and joy. Its been an amazing year, and I hope the upsets keep coming. Heck, Northern Colorado finally gots its first victory in the Big Sky conference, so anything is possible.

Rest in Peace, Bobcats.
Rest in Misery, Griz.

This has been a Matter of Fact.
